West Lafayette man arrested after motorcycle pursuit with Indiana State Police

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) — A 20-year-old motorcyclist was arrested Tuesday night after leading an Indiana State Police trooper on a vehicle pursuit.

Just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, an Indiana State Police trooper was patrolling Interstate 65 near the 173-mile marker in Lafayette, Indiana, when he attempted to stop a 2009 Kawasaki sports bike for traveling over 90 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone.

The driver, later identified as Sammy Mack Allen, 20, of West Lafayette, Indiana, failed to stop and fled northbound on I-65.

The pursuit continued northbound to the 201-mile marker, where the motorcycle exited I-65 onto U.S. 24. The driver continued westbound on U.S. 24 until County Road 380 West, where the motorcycle left the roadway and attempted to flee through a field. The pursuit ended shortly after, and Allen was taken into custody.

After further investigation, the ISP trooper developed probable cause that Allen was under the influence of both alcohol and drugs. As a result, Allen was taken into custody and booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail.

Allen was preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, operating a vehicle while intoxicated – endangerment, reckless driving, aggressive driving, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
