Marcus’ 4 a.m. Wednesday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Beautiful weather settles in for the next couple of days.
Wednesday:
We will start the morning very chilly, with some areas of frost developing in the northern portions of the state.

Expect mostly sunny skies with pleasant, quiet weather for much of the afternoon. Temperatures should be a bit warmer, topping out in the low 60s across much of central Indiana.

More important than the warmer temperatures, the wind should be less intense as high pressure settles in from the south and west.
Wednesday night:
Calm conditions are expected tonight with high pressure overhead. Look for mainly clear skies with lows ranging from the mid-30s to low 40s. A few areas in northern Indiana could dip close to the mid-30s, potentially leading to frost, but this should be confined to the northern third of the state.

Thursday:
Thursday will be mostly dry with mild temperatures. The day will begin with mostly sunny skies, with clouds building late as a warm front approaches from the west. Winds will gradually increase, leading into the afternoon and evening hours. Some showers will be possible around lunch time into the early afternoon.

High temperatures will reach the mid to upper 60s.

Friday:
With the passage of the cold front Thursday night, very warm and humid air will surge from the Gulf, pushing temperatures close to 80°F across much of central Indiana.

Additionally, stronger gradient winds will move into the region, with gusts of 30 to 35 mph expected consistently through Friday.

Storms return:
As a cold front approaches from the west, showers and thunderstorms will develop late Friday night through the overnight hours. There is an increased threat of severe weather during this period, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary concerns.

Wet Easter weekend?
The overnight cold front will stall over the Ohio River Valley on Saturday and Sunday, keeping precipitation in the forecast intermittently for both days.

There may be a lull in precipitation early Easter Sunday morning, but another wave is expected Sunday afternoon through Sunday night, bringing another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms. This late Sunday rain will likely carry into at least the first half of Monday, with scattered showers and thunderstorms to start the work week.

Seven-day rainfall estimates suggest 2 to 4 inches for much of the area, with some higher amounts possibly exceeding 6 inches over the next week, which could lead to flooding issues.

Extended forecast:
Rain chances are expected to decrease by the middle of next week. Temperatures should remain reasonable following Monday’s rain, with highs in the mid-60s. The 8- to 14-day outlook also indicates fairly mild conditions, with a strong signal for above-average temperatures.
