INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Underage drinking, safety violations, and a lack of permits led to a massive party being shut down by police Saturday night.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said they shut down a “Valentine’s Euphoria Party” at the Encanto Banquet Hall Feb. 1.

The “Valentine’s Euphoria Party” was promoted at the hall located on the 10000 block of East Washington Street.

Flyers circulating about the event suggested attendees bring “liquor in water bottles,” which raised concerns. Investigators from the IMPD Nuisance Abatement Unit discovered the venue did not have the required permits to host such an event, police said.

On the night of the party, officers saw a large crowd of young people entering through a back emergency exit, along with numerous cars parked outside. Officers said they saw attendees – many of whom appeared to be under the legal drinking age – drinking alcohol.

Around 200 people were reportedly at the hall.

Due to the large turnout, backup was called. As officers arrived, many partygoers ran away. After getting a search warrant, police said detectives went inside and found alcohol in plain sight. It was also noted that the venue violated fire safety regulations with only one entrance and exit.

Police cited the venue operator for not having the necessary permits and issued four citations, potentially carrying fines up to $10,000.

One person was arrested for underage drinking, police said.
