INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A familiar face is back in the Circle City.

On Monday, the Indiana Fever announced that forward Natasha Howard is returning to the franchise. Howard, who was a free agent, played the last two seasons for the Dallas Wings.

She was originally drafted by the Fever. Indiana selected her 5th overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft, before playing two seasons with the Fever.

“I’m happy to be back where I started,” Howard said during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Howard not only returns to the franchise, but also will now play once again under Fever head coach Stephanie White. White, who was the Connecticut Sun head coach the last two seasons, was named Indiana’s head coach in November.

White was an assistant coach for the Fever from 2011-14 before serving as the team’s head coach from 2015-16. She actually coached Howard in 2014-15.

“Coach Steph has always been on my butt about hustling, working hard, do the little things because the little things are going to take you a long way,” Howard said. “When I got the minutes that I played my rookie year, I took every advantage of it. And I’m happy to be back next to her playing, playing with her and her coaching me.”

Howard won WNBA championships while playing for the Minnesota Lynx (2017) and Seattle Storm (2018 and 2020).

Howard is also a two-time WNBA All-Star (2019 and 2022) and was named the WNBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2019.

“She’s accomplished everything that you can accomplish as an athlete, but she’s still hungry for more,” White said. “She’s a calming personality. She’s somebody that you can rely on. She’s consistent. She’s continued to grow and get better. She’s just such a great example for our young core of what it takes to not just get to this point where you find success, but what it takes on a daily basis to put one foot in front of the other and continue to grow.”
