Dairy Association promotes school breakfast week

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Students at Westlake Elementary School in Wayne Township were welcomed with a special celebration for National School Breakfast Week. The American Dairy Association Indiana, a non-profit organization, highlighted the importance of a nutritious breakfast with healthy treats and special guests.

As part of the national campaign “Clue In to School Breakfast,” the event emphasized the role of a healthy morning meal. To mark the occasion, Westlake Elementary students enjoyed yogurt parfaits before an interactive experience featuring guests from Indy’s sports teams.

Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders and mascot Blue, the Indianapolis Indians mascot Rowdie, and Indy Fuel’s mascot Nitro all joined for a hearty breakfast with the kids.

Students then participated in an interactive presentation from local dairy farmer Kerry Estes.

Brooke Williams from ADAI expressed the organization’s enthusiasm for the event, stating that they want students to see breakfast as not only essential, but also fun.

“It’s very important to our nearly 700 dairy farm families in Indiana that we showcase the importance of dairy in a balanced diet. At Westlake Elementary, students from grades K-6 have access to breakfast every day, including a carton of milk packed with eight grams of protein and 13 essential nutrients. This helps them start the day with full stomachs and better focus in the classroom,” Williams said.
