Fans pack Lucas Oil Stadium for Royal Rumble
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Fans from across the country and Hoosier state packed Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday night for this year’s Royal Rumble.
Indiana Sports Corp estimated at least 65,000 people would attend the event.
Indy native Brett Eley could not believe the showdown was happening in his home city.
“It finally came here and we’re here together, and it’s one of the most amazing experiences of my life,” Eley said.
He’s been watching all of the World Wrestling Entertainment‘s (WWE) biggest events from a screen since he first became a fan in 1997. He thought he’d have to travel far and wide to make his dream of seeing a Royal Rumble in person a reality.
“Honestly, I would tell my cousin, I grew up with him, we love it together and I tell him like ‘We’re gonna have to travel somewhere to go see this,’” Eley said.
While some fans were excited just to be there, others came out to see specific superstars.
“Of course, yeet! Jey Uso,” Cincinnati native Clarisa Patrick said. “This is our first time at a Royal Rumble. So, I’m super excited. Just seeing everybody, all the wrestlers, the women and the men. It’s fantastic.”
Although it is Patrick’s first Royal Rumble, it’s her second time in Indianapolis.
Eely is hopeful anyone from out of town feels welcome.
“It’s just having the show complete here and just seeing how the city appreciates having this type of an experience like I just know we’re going to show out and it’s going to be incredible, especially the other events coming, it’s just going to put the city on the map just letting them know like Indianapolis fans are huge wrestling fans,” Eely said.
