Remains in Syria may be Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Ed and Paula Kassig have issued a statement regarding the discovery of human remains near Dabiq, Syria, which may include their son, Peter Kassig.

Peter Kassig, also known as Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig, was a Hoosier aid worker who was in 2014 killed after being taken hostage by ISIS.

The Kassigs were informed by the U.S. government about a collaborative effort involving Qatar, the United States, and at least one nongovernmental group that led to the discovery of these remains. The collaboration believes that some or all of the remains are from people that have been killed by ISIS, Peter among them.

The identities of the remains have not yet been determined, and the Kassigs are awaiting further analysis to confirm whether their son is among the deceased.

“We are grateful to all those who are involved in the effort to get these deceased individuals’ remains identified and returned to their home countries and loved ones,” said Ed and Paula Kassig in their statement.

The Kassigs have requested privacy as they await more information about the remains and any potential identification of their son.
