Pacers’ Nembhard receives Eastern Conference defensive honor

INDIANAPOLIIS (WISH) — Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard was named the Eastern Conference Defensive Player of the Month the month of January.

The Pacers had the best defensive rating in the Eastern Conference in January (109.7) and the third best in the NBA.

Nembhard had a team high 21 steals in the month.

The Pacers were scorching hot in January, going 10-2. They’ve catapulted up to the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference standings and post a record of 28-20 after starting the season 9-14.

The Pacers success has been tied to their improvement on the defensive end of the court. In the last 23 game, the Pacers are fifth in the NBA in defensive rating.

For the season, Nembhard has averaged 10.9 points, 5.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds per game, and 1.2 steals per game, all career-highs. He has started in all 32 games he has appeared in.

The Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month was Amen Thompson of the Houston Rockets.

The Pacers return to the court on Tuesday night on the road against the Trail Blazers. They are looking for their fifth straight victory.
