In a recent interview, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) voiced his support for importing as many illegal aliens as possible into his state, defending the surge of 20,000 Haitian illegals into the town of Springfield, Ohio.
ABC News reports that during the interview on “This Week” with anchor Martha Raddatz, DeWine claimed that illegals are good workers and contribute to the economy, while also rejecting the widespread claims that some of the Haitians are killing and eating domestic pets.
“What we know is that the Haitians who are in Springfield are legal,” DeWine said falsely. “They came to Springfield to work. Ohio is on the move, and Springfield has really made a great resurgence with a lot of companies coming in. These Haitians came in to work for these companies.”
“What the companies tell us is that they are very good workers,” he continued. “They’re very happy to have them there, and frankly, that’s helped the economy. Now, are there problems connected? Well, sure. When you go from a population of 58,000 and add 15,000 people onto that, you’re going to have some challenges and some problems. And we’re addressing those.”
The town of Springfield has come into national focus after numerous residents claimed, on social media and in city council meetings, that some Haitian illegals have been hunting and killing pet dogs and cats, eating them for food as they would in their impoverished home country.
Although Democrats have insisted that this is a conspiracy theory, evidence has emerged suggesting that the phenomenon is real: Police bodycam footage from August showed a black woman being arrested in Ohio for killing and eating a cat, while official police reports in Springfield have confirmed conflicts involving the Haitians. Over the weekend, investigative journalist Christopher Rufo posted footage of several dead cats being grilled on a barbecue in Ohio.
President Trump brought up the crisis in Springfield during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) with the viral moment of the night being when the former president explicitly said “they’re eating the cats, they’re eating the dogs.”
But DeWine insisted, with no evidence, that these claims are not true.
“Look, there’s a lot of garbage on the internet and, you know, this is a piece of garbage that was simply not true,” he stated. “There’s no evidence of this at all.”
