Officer hit by vehicle while responding to reported fight

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis police officer was in good condition at a hospital after being hit by a vehicle while going to a reported fight on Thursday afternoon.

A notification from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the officer, whose name was not shared, was sent just after 4:35 p.m. Thursday to adults fighting at West 22nd and Illinois streets on the near-north side.

A computer-aided dispatch for medics listed the fight as an assault requiring advanced life support.

While going to the scene, the officer was hit by the vehicle, the notification said. The person in the vehicle was not hurt. The notification did not say what type of vehicle hit the officer.

“The investigation surrounding the initial fight remains ongoing,” the notification said.
