Missouri Supreme Court Rules Question on Legalizing Abortion Can Be on November Ballot

The Missouri Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled a question on legalizing abortion can be on the November ballot, overturning a lower court decision. 

The court heard arguments this morning, and Chief Justice Mary Russell (pictured above) issued a decision a little after 2 p.m, according to local news station ABC-17.

The judges’ decision reverses the decision in Cole County Circuit court last week.

The question is known as as Amendment 3, which relates to access to abortion, was certified by Missouri’s Secretary of State’s Office after thousands of petition signatures were certified. The initiative to get the measure on the Nov. 5 ballot received over 380,000 signatures, the news station also reports.

Supporters and opponents of abortion have tried to get the related measure on November ballots in at least nine states this year year including Missouri.
