Man sentenced to 44 years for home invasion, shooting in McCordsville

GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — A man was sentenced Friday to 44 years in the Indiana Department of Correction after being convicted in connection with a violent home invasion and shooting in McCordsville, Indiana, in 2023.

In March, a Hancock County jury returned a guilty verdict after less than an hour of deliberation. Brandon Lee Cunningham was convicted of burglary ad robbery resulting in serious bodily injury.

Court documents revealed that the in the early hours of Dec. 13, 2023, Cunningham and another masked assailant unlawfully entered the residence of a local business owner. The intruders demanded money before shooting the local business owner and fleeing the scene. The victim was discovered outside his home with two gunshot wounds.

“This was a violent crime that left a member of our community seriously injured. We are grateful for the work of the McCordsville Police Department providing us the evidence needed to achieve this outstanding result.  It was a lengthy and difficult investigation. They did a great job.  Deputy Prosecutors Melissa Lewis and David Ostendorf, were outstanding in their work at trial, and justice was served. We are proud to hold this defendant accountable under the law and to restore a sense of safety for the victim and our community.”
