Ticket revealed for this year’s Indianapolis 500
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The ticket for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 has been revealed.
The ticket, which features images of back-to-back Indy 500 champion Josef Newgarden, was unveiled on Thursday morning at Indianapolis International Airport.
Newgarden, along with Indianapolis Motor Speedway and IndyCar President Doug Boles, was on hand for the big reveal.
“Being a part of the Indianapolis 500 is something every driver dreams about,” Newgarden said. “And to get your likeness on the ticket is kind of next-level.”
This year’s “500” ticket was designed in house by senior art director Mandy Walsh. It features Newgarden’s victory podium celebrations and his cars from the past two Indy 500s. “Vibrant images from 2024 are shadowed by similar images from 2023,” according to a news release.
“This is a little different than they’ve ever done in the past,” Newgarden said. “So, very cool to see what they always come up with. And they highlighted the back-to-back winners here because it’s not happened very often, which is what’s unique about Indy. It’s so difficult to win. Not many people have won it back-to-back. No one’s ever won it three times in a row, so this will be a good reminder for me.”
Featuring the winning driver on the following year’s Indy 500 ticket dates back “to Mauri Rose’s appearance in 1948,” according to the news release.
Newgarden is seeking to make more Indy 500 history this May. No driver has ever won three straight Indy 500s.
“Two years ago, I was kind of getting comfortable with the fact I may never win this race,” Newgarden said. “So then to win it two times in a row is kind of beyond my wildest dreams.”
Following the ticket reveal in Indy, Newgarden and Boles flew to Nashville, Tenn., Newgarden’s hometown, where they visited Indy 500 ticketholders. Newgarden and Boles flew on the first Southwest Airlines direct flight from Indy to Nashville.
This year’s Indy 500 will take place May 25.
