INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police on Saturday arrested a man after they say he fatally shot his girlfriend in the head while drunk driving around Indy’s near north side.
Around 8:12 p.m. Saturday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department received a 911 call reporting a possible person shot. Dispatch advised they could hear shots actively being fired during the call.
One caller stated that a driver of a gray Pontiac shot his girlfriend’s head off. Officers located the vehicle in the 7500 block of West Saint Clair Street. Multiple witnesses told officers that Tramone Allen, 40, fled from the vehicle. The responding officers tasered Allen, who had a beer in his hand, before taking him into custody.
Officers found Sapanna Harris-Williams, 42, in the passenger seat of the sedan with a gunshot wound to the head. Officers saw a shotgun in plain view in the backseat.
Harris-Williams cause and manner of death was ruled to be homicide from a gunshot wound to the head.
Court documents say police then spoke with Harris-Williams’ mother, L.N., who witnessed part of the incident. L.N. stated that Allen texted her husband, K.T., a message that led her to believe something had happened to Harris-Williams. L.N. stated that an ex-girlfriend of Allen was also texting various family members, stating that Allen blew off Harris-Williams’ head.
Police also spoke with A.N., sister of Harris-Williams. A.N. stated that Allen was standing outside of an apartment building and said to A.N.: “That b**** dead. I blew her head off.”
L.N. stated that Allen and Harris-Williams live with her and constantly fight. The night before the shooting, both Allen and Harris-Williams left the home. L.N. stated that she knows Allen to carry a sawed-off shotgun, but there are no other firearms in the home. L.N. also noted there was history of physical violence between the couple.
L.N. said that, at the scene, she saw Allen jump out of the driver’s seat and run toward an apartment building that she believes belongs to Allen’s family.
Detectives collected a 12-gauge shotgun and a fired shotgun hull from the Pontiac. They also noted that there were three shotgun shells in the magazine tube.
In the 911 call placed by T.L., Allen can be heard in the background saying, “I blew her brains out.” During the call, T.L. states that family of Harris-Williams showed up and started shooting at Allen.
In a phone interview with T.L., she stated that Allen drove up in the Pontiac saying, “It’s a body in the car, it’s a body in the car.” Allen walked toward T.L., visibly intoxicated, saying Harris-Williams was putting her hands on him so he shot her. Detectives observed small scratches on Allen’s face and hand.
While T.L. was waiting for police to arrive, Harris-Williams’ mother and another female arrived. The second female pulled out a gun and fired shots in the air. She was not identified.
Allen was booked Sunday morning and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
