Senior Trooper Weston Shanks was on patrol in a Dodge Charger traveling westbound on State Road 22 behind a Ford F-450 pulling a utility trailer. The truck began to slow down to turn right when, “for an undetermined reason, the Charger rear-ended the trailer,” ISP said in the press release.

The Charger went off the south side of the road and crashed into a ditch.

Trooper Shanks was taken to the hospital by air ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The other driver was not hurt from the crash.

ISP says the incident is an ongoing investigation, but neither drugs or alcohol are suspected of being a factor in the crash.
