INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An IMPD officer and at least two other people were attacked by an aggressive dog Saturday, leading to the officer fatally shooting the animal after it latched onto their leg.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says the officer was dispatched to a south side apartment complex in the 5300 block of Turtle Creek Drive around 5:30 p.m. Saturday after a 911 caller reported the dog she was taking care of bit her.

While the officer spoke with the caller, the dog reappeared, biting and latching onto the officer’s leg, refusing to let go. The officer tried kicking at the dog but the attack continued.

Eventually, the officer fired their weapon and shot the dog, which died at the scene. Police later learned the dog wasn’t vaccinated.

The officer and a dog bite victim were taken to hospitals for treatment, and were said to be in stable condition.

A third person who’d been bit by the dog was also found at the complex. IMPD says the third victim took themselves to a hospital for treatment.
