Longtime TV reporter turns author and documentary producer

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Former WISH-TV reporter Sandra Chapman, an award-winning journalist, returned to the studio to share her new book and documentary, “The Girl in the Yellow Scarf.”

The Girl in the Yellow Scarf” is a film about the murder of Carol Jenkins in 1968, one of Indiana’s most infamous civil rights cold cases.

The award winning documentary shares the story of how Jenkins was killed in Martinsville, Indiana. “…This young black woman, 21-years-old, first day out selling what was then encyclopedias … and she was killed on the main thoroughfare in Martinsville, walking down the street,” Chapman said.

The case remained unsolved for decades, which is when Chapman decided to start an investigation in 2001.

Shortly after her investigation, Chapman got a call, “a woman called and said, if the girl had a yellow and killed with a screwdriver, my father could be the killer.”

“The Girl in the Yellow Scarf” airs on PBS on Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
