Funeral procession for IMPD officer will impact traffic Monday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The funeral procession for an Indianapolis police officer could impact traffic on Monday, the department says.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Anderson Vilma died on April 3 at the age of 32 following a battle with cancer.

Vilma’s family says he lived his life to the fullest and he was able to “fulfill his promise to become a Navy Officer and, in the end, a police officer,” according to an online obituary.

He is survived by his mother, father, two sisters, and younger brother.

Visitation

Visitation for Ofc. Vilma will be held Monday, April 14, from 8 – 10 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., followed by a celebration of life at 10 a.m. A funeral procession will follow.

Procession Route from Crown Hill to East District, beginning at approximately 12 p.m.:

  • South on Clarendon Road
  • East on 38th Street
  • South on Shadeland Avenue
  • East on 10th Street
  • South on North Shortridge Road
  • West into main entrance of Get Fit, then northbound in front of the gym, and westbound in front of IMPD East District
  • Northbound into the parking lot of East District HQ, 201 Shadeland Ave.

Procession Route from East District to Crown Hill, beginning at approximately 12:30 pm:

  • North through the lot, then westbound, exiting on the north end of the lot.
  • North on the access road, then west to the light by Jiffy Lube
  • North on Shadeland Avenue
  • West on 38th Street
  • South on North Capitol Avenue
  • West on 34th Street to Crown Hill entrance
