Former IU guard transfers to Georgia State

ATLANTA (WISH) — Former IU guard Jakai Newton is headed back to his home state.

He announced on his Instagram that his is transferring to Georgia State.

Newton struggled to stay healthy in his two seasons in Bloomington. He was injured during his first year, missing the entire season and redshirting.

In his second year, he played just four games. He needed surgery on a lower body injury in December of 2024. Newton returned to play in just one game, after his injury, playing four minutes in IU’s home loss to Illinois.

Newton scored six points in his Hoosier career.

Newton is a former four-star recruit. He is from Covington, Georgia.
