INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — For the first time in four decades, the Ford F-150 has been dethroned as the top-selling vehicle in the United States, according to data from Jato Dynamics, Forbes reported.
The Ford F-150 had maintained its position as the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. for more than 40 years.
Forbes reported that sales of the F-150 dropped by 5% to 460,915 units in 2024, while the RAV4 saw a 9% increase, reaching 475,193 units.
The RAV4’s rise to the top is attributed in part to its hybrid powertrain, which has become a major draw for consumers seeking fuel efficiency and eco-friendly options, Forbes reported.
Researchers believe the vehicle’s combination of practicality and sustainability has made it a favorite among American drivers, particularly as the demand for hybrid and electric vehicles continues to grow.
Jato’s list of top sellers shows an 11% increase in Honda CR-V sales, reaching 402,791 units, propelling the popular Japanese SUV to third place.
In contrast, sales of the Tesla Model Y dropped by 3%, totaling 372,613 units, possibly due to anticipation of a facelifted version revealed in December, Forbes reported.
Forbes said Toyota had three vehicles in the Top 10: the Camry (up 7%), Corolla (up 22%), and Chevy Silverado (down 2%).
Other vehicles making the Top 10 include the Nissan Rogue in eighth, Honda Civic in ninth, and GMC Sierra 1500 in 10th.
