Fairmount man drowns in Goose Lake, fell overboard while fishing

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WISH) — While fishing on Goose Lake in Whitely County, one man fell overboard and drowned.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources say the drowning happened around 2:45 p.m. Sunday. Daniel Watson, 60, died on the scene.

Watson and 49-year-old Nicholas George “were fishing from a watercraft when Watson fell overboard, causing the watercraft to capsize,” Indiana DNR said in the press release.

George got Watson to shore when another person at Goose Lake called for help. Despite help, Watson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana DNR said that while life jackets were in the boat, they were not being used when the accident happened.

“Conservation officers remind the public to always wear a life jacket when participating in water-related activities,” Indiana DNR said.
