Overdose Lifeline offers Naloxone training

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A community naloxone training session empowered Center Township’s residents with tools and knowledge to combat the opioid crisis and save lives.

The event, hosted by Overdose Lifeline, took place Jan. 27 at the Center Township Trustee’s Office and drew attendees from across the area.

Justin Phillips, founder of the Indianapolis-based nonprofit Overdose Lifeline, led the session. The organization is dedicated to supporting individuals, families, and communities affected by addiction.

“Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, is a life-saving overdose reversal agent. It’s simple to use and can make the difference between life and death in an opioid overdose situation,” Philips said.

The training covered essential skills such as recognizing an overdose, administering naloxone, and the importance of calling 911. Participants also learned that naloxone is safe to use even if opioids are not involved.

“There’s no harm in administering naloxone if you’re unsure what substance someone has taken. It’s like knowing CPR—it’s a critical skill that everyone should have,” Philips said.

With the growing prevalence of fentanyl in the drug supply, Phillips emphasized the importance of preparedness. “Right now, you’re more likely to administer naloxone than CPR. Having it on hand can save a life and give someone a chance at recovery.”

Attendees praised the session for its accessibility and hands-on approach, with many leaving equipped with naloxone kits and a renewed commitment to addressing addiction in their communities.

Overdose Lifeline continues to offer resources and training for individuals and organizations seeking to make a difference.
