Brown County declares disaster emergency after flooding, storms

NASHVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Brown County Emergency Management on Saturday announced a local disaster emergency declaration through April 11 for severe flooding and storm damage.

Brown County commissioners approved the measure, which allow the county to request outside assistance and resources if needed.

“All public offices and employees of Brown County are hereby directed to exercise the utmost diligence in the discharge of duties required of them for the duration of the emergency and in execution of emergency laws, regulations, and directives,” the declaration states.

Brown County Emergency Management officials say the area is seeing increasing flooding and degraded roads, while the declaration cites rain, wind damage, downed power lines, and downed trees as the reason for the order.

The disaster declaration directs citizens “to comply with necessary emergency measures.”
